Michelle's responsibilities include education programs, human resource administration, and organizational performance and processes. In collaboration with the Associate Vice President for Program Development and National Laboratories, Michelle is responsible for tracking and reporting the University's management goals for Argonne's Performance Evaluation and Measurement Plan. Additionally, she helps to establish, communicate and manage corporate Contractor Assurance activities. Michelle serves as staff, from the corporate office, to the Argonne Board of Governors' Compensation Committee and the Contractor Assurance System Review Committee. She also manages the process for joint appointments between the University, Argonne and Fermilab. Michelle reports to the Vice President for Research and for National Laboratories and is a member of the University's Diversity Leadership Council.

Michelle is accountable for tracking and reporting the fulfillment of education commitments made to the U.S. Department of Energy for Fermilab and Argonne. In this role she has oversight for the Strategic Laboratory Leadership Program, a customized, non-degree executive education program that Michelle helped to establish for selected scientists and staff from Fermilab and Argonne. Michelle co-chairs the Argonne Education Outreach Council; and directs the Science and Technology Outreach and Mentoring Program (S.T.O.M.P), an after-school science club led by a multidisciplinary staff of UChicago undergraduates, graduates and post-doctoral students. Additionally, Michelle helps to coordinate University-wide, science outreach activities and connect researchers to programs and staff who can support their efforts to broaden the social impact of their research interests.

At the start of her career in education, Michelle worked five years at The University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Later she worked for Baxter Healthcare as a senior marketing manager with international responsibilities for new-product development, training and management. Prior to her return to higher education, Michelle worked at the North Shore Country Day School as a middle-school Spanish teacher and as the service-learning program director for the elementary and middle schools.

Michelle has an MBA from The University of Chicago, a Master’s in Organizational Learning and Strategic Change from Northwestern University, and a B.S. in secondary education from The University of Wisconsin-Madison.
